That nasty Harry Fox. Doesn't he realize that when his mom shared cooking recipes with other women, they weren't breaking the law, even if somebody else wrote the recipe? Music, like mama's dishes are made to be shared. If we wanted the "official" version, we'd buy the tab. Doen't he realize how wrong some (maybe most) of these really are? I'd love to see some of the original artists contribute here (even if they have to use phony names to keep there management happy). Hey Harry - does your mom know what you're doing?

Merry Christmas to all at Guitar Notes! Ain't this place great? I just wanted to let you know I've begun the "guitarTABS" section of my site, where I'll be sharing 30+ years experience with Modal and Open tunings. Ever hear of a "Nashville Tuning"? Have you ever wanted the recipe? The Nashville tuning and over 20 modal/open tunings are now available:

http://alanhorvath.com ... or ... http://www.macol.net/~ahorvath/index.html

I'll be setting up a page for beginners, and another page for experienced players ... talking about modal playing and folk guitar techniques, finger-pickin' patterns, and more ... in the interest of building a lesson-database for easy access and reference. I already love the link titled "I Gotcher Modal Tunings ... Right Here." (Say it like you're a New York cabby, yellin' at another driver) -- no more digging through old notebooks, going "Where did I put that Open A Tuning?!" -- all my favorite tunings are in one place ... no fading! ... no dust! and "No Charge"! What a world!

You are welcome to email me questions about guitar playing techniques, and if I feel it's worthy, I'll build one of the "reference lessons" around it: ahorvath@macol.net

Happy Holidays!
~~Alan Horvath

Hey ... it's been awhile since I entered a statement here ... but, since my last entry, much has occurred. I have a regular spot in the GUITAR NOTES BANDS listings ... I'm getting regular plays with "Peace Bone" at www.soundclick.com and at www.smallhall.com and, of course, at MY site, you can listen to 2 min clips of 12 songs! Dig it! http://www.macol.net/~ahorvath/index.html ... my Tabs page will be up and running by Christmas -- modal guitar notes and instructions -- no cover tunes except my own versions of a Dylan song. Check me out and note my new email address! THANKS!

I play in a 17 piece traditional Big "Swing" Band. I play a Gibson ES-165 through a Polytone Mini Brute Solid State Amp. My problem is trying to get a good old fashion full acoustic type sound....I sound to electric which isn't so good since the charts are all chords. I tried going to a heavier gauge flat wound string. That helped a little. I played an Epiphone Regent or Emporer that had a spruce top an a small OBL floating pick-up through a Fender tube VibroLux Amp...That was the sound I wanted! I bought the amp and tried it with my ES-165 which is all mahogony. It still didn't quite make it. Does anyone think it would be wise to give up my Gibsion ES-165 for the Ephiphone which is 1/3rd of the value of the Gibson? Does anyone have any other suggestions?

your information was right on concerning the debate of wood verses sound in the electric guitar construction. i see that funtionality and feel are what a musician should look for. i am presently experimenting with different materials for electric guitar assembly.i have had a lot of fun and would like to take it further and have considered marketing some of my ideas i find the only drawback is not having enough exposure,to test the ideas and not having enough time to develope those ideas.what i would like to do is thank you for a very informative web site. ralph arby3d@asan.com

I met this awesome guy named Linus in SLC in June. I don't know his last name and I lost touch with him. All I know is he lives in a small town in Arizona and teaches guitar, he has longish hair, a huge tattoo on his back and one on his arm, and went to Flagstaff for a while. I'd really appreciate it if you could email me if you know anything about him or how I can reach him. Thanx. :)

I like trying out new ideas re construction and materials, altho I am a traditionalist at heart!! I have made some excellent lattice braced carbon fibre classics and, despite my traditional views, have turned out to be my best efforts by far!! Would anyone out there like to exchange ideas??

I play Elec Bass(mostly in my church with or without our Praise/Worship Team). I've learned a LOT from being on an email list called CHURCHBASS(people who play bass in church-kinda self-explanatory) from a lot of excellent bass players who are open to help with any question. They've got me interested in bass repair, bridge-thru stringing, and defretting old pawn-shop basses. Armed with my new knowledge, I'm looking to learn MORE about repair and collection of Electric Basses. It's starting to become a new passion and I hope this site can be of help!! Thanks.

I can see that this page includes a lot of different kinds of music stuff, but.....Here comes one question: Is in whole WWW available John Mellencamp:Wild Nights-guitar notes(including tabs and chords)? I have found one bass tab and it wasn't enough. So, if anyone knows about it, I'd be very thankful of it.

What a wonderful discovery! Thank you so much for the effort that's gone into putting it together. I've been running a coffee house here for over 4 years, non-profit & volunteer set up, and occasionally I do a newsletter. I'm going to be including your site in my next letter.
Since I'm also a performer and need all the help I can get with my guitar playing this site is going to become invaluable to me in the future.
Once again, to those responsible for this page, thank you so much.

I love this site. It contained everything I needed. Thanks a lot. But there is something that's missing that I've been trying to find forever. It's been so frustrating looking up sites for a band that no one wants to give recognition to. So to make this a fast one, I would like to know if anyone can help me find a site that has Polara guitar tabs. I really appreciate all the help. Thanks

Guitar Notes is the most valuable and informative sites I have found to date. I have been making violins now for two years, achieving good results mainly due to the valuable information I have been able to obtain from the many various excellent sites on that subject. Recently I commenced to make a Bob Benedetto Anniversary model Archtop Guitar incorporating a few of my modifications. I discovered your site a few months ago and found many interesting articles that has been of great assistance to me, one in particular is the article written by Sean J Barry on Pearl Inlay Technique. I have passed on your URL to many of my associates, all of whom have found this site as rewarding and informative as I have. Keep up the good work.

I have always been interested in learning a stringed instrument and recieved a gitar in my 29th year as a gift. Armed with a breif overveiw booklet and a community access channel video I learned a lot but it seemed to be the tip of the iceberg. Your site was more infomation than I dreamed I would find in one spot. I was suprised to find links to some awesome Christian music site. I am more inspired than ever to continue practicing songs I know and love. Keep up the good work!Thank-you

Great site. Saves hours of stumbling around the "World Wide Wait"!!! Here I can find or link-up to what I'm looking for.
