So let's look at a lick that emphasizes this switch from C#-C when we move from an A7 to D7, and vice versa. In measure 1, we bend up to the C# to imply it over the D7, and then hit the C hard at the end of measure 1 right before the D7 in measure 2.  Note how the C appears a few more times near the end of measure 2.  Then, when we return to measure 3, we repeat our bend up to the C# since we are back on the A7 chord...
