electric pickups
Review for: Bill Lawrence L-500
Purchase price of 50 USD
Rating: 4.0
Comments:I've been using this pickup for years with a variety of amps: GT Trio MB 20/20; Peavey 5150; Peavey Classic 30. Doesn't accentuate mids, awesome bass response and clean treble. Strong output, enough to overdrive amps reasonably well.
For which styles and positions is this pickup (un)suitable: This is a great all around pickup, particularly well suited to rock
I used to think that the best pickups had to come from the big names, but I experimented with this one because Stew-Mac had a great price on it and I read that Nuno Bettencourt and Dimebag Darrell both use Lawrence pickups. So figured, what the hell, I'll give it a shot.very accentuated mid range that sucks for thrash type music.
I've used other pickups: Seymour Duncans came with my ESP, and I've had a DiMarzio MegaDrive and tried many other DiMarzios in stores, and they always have too much mid range that can't really be compensated for with EQ. This pickup has strong string-string balance, the blade pole pieces make bending sound very smooth, and overall the tone just can't be beat -- especially when you factor in price.
