electric pickups
Review for: AVn-'62 (Passive single coil)
Purchase price of UK pounds 67
Rating: 4.0
Comments:OD sounds: JMP-1 for higain, JTM for balls, occaisionally a home made FuzzFace, small stone. DBx compression and rare Marshall 'Country Club' for clean.( As was used by SRV.) I compose film/media music and do sessions. I've produced for some 'name' artists too.
For which styles and positions is this pickup (un)suitable: Anything a strat can do.
I've been playing 17 years.I've looked long and hard for a good noiseless single coil.Compared with duncan stacks & rails, and Dimarzio stacks, this pickup retains the transparency and character that the latter models lose in their quest for noise cancelling action. Kinman seems to have radically reduced any phase interaction normally inherent between coils leaving a focused, deep, rich but biting tone of the top coil. Tons of character. The other aspect is, these are HIGHLY expressive pickups, which is my main criteria for any guitar set up. I would go so far as to say they're more responsive than fenders to finger and picking action. I'd buy this again. In fact I'm saving for all my Strat type guitars.
